Com.IPM - Ensure the quality of your processes through intelligent inspection process management

Software for inspection process management according to VDA 5

The Com.IPM software is a cloud-based platform and supports users in implementing inspection process management completely in accordance with VDA Volume 5. It includes tools for inspection planning, measurement uncertainty analysis, documentation, and more. It thus covers all tasks related to measurement and inspection processes defined in VDA Volume 5, the central guideline for quality management in the automotive industry. Com.IPM refers to Compliant Inspection Process Management.

The software can be integrated into the customer’s IT infrastructure. Measuring devices can be selected from the Com.IPM, a customer-specific or a public inspection equipment database.

The software for inspection process management according to VDA 5 offers a central proof of capability for measurement and inspection processes and ensures consistency with adjacent processes of inspection equipment management and inspection planning. The integrated risk-based approach provides support in selecting the procedure for validating test decisions (risk analysis) and allows a differentiated approach.

Why Com.IPM?

In order to obtain valid measurement results, you have to evaluate measurement and inspection processes. The aim is for you to calculate and therefore know the expanded measurement uncertainty for each measured value.

But what is measurement uncertainty and how to calculate measurement uncertainty?

A measurement never provides you with an absolutely accurate result, since measurements are
always affected by a wide variety of influences, most of which cannot even be quantified. The measurement uncertainty therefore describes the random variation of a measurement result from the actual value and this is why it is indicated by +/-.

If this uncertainty is known, you calculate the measurement result as follows: measured value ± expanded measurement uncertainty. Com.IPM is a quality management software for inspection processes with VDA 5 requirements. You use it to determine the measurement uncertainty for a specific measurement and inspection process based on a measurement uncertainty analysis. Com.IPM also manages the measurement and inspection processes in a company, as required by VDA Volume 5 (3rd edition) and thus thus fulfils all the tasks of modern inspection process management system.

Com.IPM supports you in all tasks required by VDA 5 for inspection process management.

Intelligent suggestion system for selecting inspection equipment

With each study conducted, knowledge about the capability of measuring devices grows. This enables the optimal selection of equipment.

By selecting one of the available entry points, the user is taken directly to the workspace for the respective task.

As individual as your project: entry points for inspection process management, inspection planning, proof of capability and more

Depending on the requirements and initial situation, Com.IPM enables a wide variety of entry points for measurement and inspection process management, the procedure for planning and for implementing the proof of capability. This depends on the respective application:

  • What data (studies) are already available?
  • How detailed do you want to plan the study?
  • Do you want to conduct a risk analysis?
  • Is the integration of a inspection equipment database possible or desired?
  • Do you start with inspection planning or do you go through all stages of the process right to comprehensive reporting?

What do you inspect when and how and by using which devices?

The basis for every study in Com.IPM is the inspection plan, i.e. the specification for the part type and characteristic information. It is a central element in inspection process management system. The inspection plan is the starting point and essential data carrier for the creation and processing of a study.

Com.IPM offers various options both, for manual data recording and for the import of available data.

There are three different types of inspection equipment databases that can be connected since we want to meet all requirements and circumstances of your company.

Des Weiteren führt Com.IPM Anwender durch die Planung ihrer Messprozesse und fragt dabei alle notwendigen Informationen ab, die für eine Analyse im Rahmen der VDA 5 Implementierung in der Serienfertigung relevant sind.

No more unpredictable consequences of incorrect test decisions

Risk-based validation is the estimation of the risk that would result from an incorrect test decision. According to inspection process management in accordance with VDA Volume 5, a distinction is made between three cases: Case 1 – highest risk; case 2 – no risk and case 3 – all other risk areas. The result of a risk analysis is the decision as to whether or not a proof of capability is necessary (documentation required!).

In Com.IPM , catalog-based criteria can be defined that describe the severity of an error and its probability of occurrence with the categories “high”, “medium” and “low” (criteria in the graphic are examples from VDA Volume 5). This allows you to secure every test decision and meet the requirements of inspection process management according to VDA 5.

Com.IPM finds the suitable measuring system

Users may connect three different types of inspection equipment databases to Com.IPM: Com.IPM inspection equipment DB, customer-specific inspection equipment DB and public DB. It does not matter which option you choose, because you will always benefit from an intelligent suggestion system that uses characteristic information to search for a suitable measuring device, measuring equipment or measuring system for the corresponding measuring task for which the inspection equipment capability is established.

Verify the capability of your measuring systems and measurement processes at the touch of a button

A central element in Com.IPM is the measurement uncertainty budget, which summarises the determined standard uncertainties under the assumption of an additive measurement model to represent the capability of the measuring system and measurement process. The graphics and charts displayed in the software for inspection process management makes it possible to identify optimisation potential or draw conclusions. It is also possible to import measurement data in order to obtain particularly fast results with regard to inspection process capability.

Thanks to the option of adding additional information, the measurement uncertainty budget not only serves to present results, but also gives users access to documents and the option to modify data interactively.

From raw data to well-structured reports

There is a summary report for each application. You access it in the respective status bar. It documents the recorded data and results. Since users need compliant reports to document inspection processes, the software provides reports containing the contents and results stored, determined or calculated in Com.IPM. However, they can also contain additional documents (e.g. calibration certificate, measurement concept, etc.). The reports are based on the templates provided and are filled with information specific to the applied data set. Individual templates can be created at any time.

An overview of all reports can then be found in the “Documentation/Reports” area.
